Scentre Group is proud to have launched the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower initiative across all 42 Westfield destinations in Australia and New Zealand. The initiative is underpinned by an ongoing commitment to accessibility, inclusivity, and ensuring all members of the community feel welcome when visiting Westfield destinations.
Scentre Group – Westfield Shopping Centres were the first shopping centres in Australia to launch - All our centres in AU and NZ launched HDS on 3 Dec 2022 (in recognition of International Day of People with Disabilities).
Scentre Group National Community Manager, Pam Wilson said,
“Our hope is that the adoption of this globally recognised initiative will make our destinations more inclusive for our communities. We know that one in five people in Australia and New Zealand have some form of disability and that for 85% of those identified, the disability is hidden. We want all customers to feel safe, included, and supported when they visit us, and are proud to be supporting this initiative.”
Leading the way in the shopping centre industry, Scentre Group is providing training and information to teams, service providers and retail partners to identify the Sunflower, gain a deeper understanding of the initiative and learn how to approach and support customers with a hidden disability.
Trained team members will wear white Sunflower pins to easily identify themselves to customers. Additionally, Hidden Disability Sunflower lanyards will be available free of charge to all customers and team members.
