Supporting passengers with non-apparent disabilities
Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is delighted to announce that the Delaware River and Bay Authority has joined the global Sunflower network and introduced the Sunflower at Wilmington Airport (ILG) in New Castle, Delaware.
The Sunflower is a discreet way for people with non-apparent disabilities, conditions or chronic illnesses to indicate that they may need additional support, understanding or more time. Wearing the Sunflower is entirely voluntary, and no proof of a disability is required. The Sunflower does not automatically provide priority access or expedited security screening. It helps airport team members recognize that someone may need additional support, understanding or more time.
By introducing the Sunflower, Wilmington Airport is helping its team members and fellow passengers recognize that someone wearing the Sunflower may appreciate a little extra patience, clear communication or an offer of support.

Wearing the Sunflower is entirely voluntary, and no proof of a disability is required. It does not provide priority access, expedited security screening or an exemption from standard airport and security procedures.
Passengers who require specific assistance should continue to contact their airline before travelling so that the appropriate support can be arranged.
