The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower continues to be recognized at Aena airports in Spain and across a global network of 340 airports and 31 airlines. Aena's Invisible Disability Badge is an additional assistance program offered by Aena alongside its recognition of the Sunflower.
The role of the Sunflower at Aena airports
The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower enables people with non-apparent disabilities to voluntarily indicate that they may need extra time, understanding, or support. Aena's guidance notes that the Sunflower may be used by people with non-apparent disabilities who may need additional help, understanding, or time when traveling through the airport. The Sunflower is recognized by airports, airlines, and organizations in more than 90 countries worldwide. More than 13 million employees have completed Sunflower training to help them respond with empathy, patience, and appropriate support.
Aena's Invisible Disability Badge
Aena's Invisible Disability Badge is designed for people with non-apparent disabilities who may experience difficulties in stressful or sensory-stimulating environments. Passengers must apply before traveling, and the badge is issued for a specific journey. The badge provides access to certain assistance services designated by Aena, including security checkpoints for families and passengers with reduced mobility, where available.
Different tools, different purposes
At Aena airports, the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower does not provide access to dedicated security checkpoints for families or passengers with reduced mobility, nor to fast-track security. Its purpose is to provide a consistent, globally recognized way for people with non-apparent disabilities to discreetly indicate they may need support, understanding, or extra time during travel. We welcome initiatives that improve accessibility and support for people with non-apparent disabilities. Like many airports and transport operators, Aena provides additional assistance services alongside its recognition of the Sunflower.
