United Ostomy Associations of America joins the Sunflower

By Hidden Disabilities Sunflower News & media Share

United Ostomy Associations of America (UOAA) joins the Sunflower to support Ostomates

UOAA joins the Sunflower program in readiness for the 2025 World Ostomy Day in October, where the theme is "Invisible Disabilities. Visible Support. The Global Unity of Ostomates." UOAA wants people to know that they are not alone and that UOAA is there to support them. The organisation also encourages people to utilise the Sunflower to raise awareness and education in their workplaces and elsewhere. UOAA believe the Sunflower program will provide its community with the ability to not feel like they have to go into detail and explain their medical condition to receive kindness or compassion. The Sunflower is a valuable tool in various situations, such as when individuals may have an urgent need for restroom access, travelling through airport security, or want access to swim in a public pool with their ostomy.

United Ostomy Associations of America, Inc. (UOAA) is a national nonprofit organisation that supports, empowers, and advocates for people who have had or will have ostomy or continent diversion surgery, as well as their caregivers. UOAA promotes quality of life for people with ostomies and continent diversions through information, support, advocacy and collaboration.

Cheryl Ory, President, UOAA, said:

“Our ostomies or continent diversions are hidden and this lifesaving surgery often misunderstood by the society around us. The Sunflower network is another way to empower people to live life to the fullest, help clear obstacles in their path, and raise ostomy awareness.”
