Updated Sunflower training

As the Sunflower has expanded, our training has grown along with it.

Since we launched our original training animation in 2020, the Sunflower has reached over 95 countries and helped train more than 13 million employees. We have learned a lot from Sunflower wearers and member organisations worldwide, and the updated animation reflects that.

This update builds on our existing training and is now available in  English The main principles and messages your teams know still apply. The Sunflower film has not changed and remains available to our Corporate and Global members.

Why we’ve updated the training animation

The Sunflower network has grown significantly since 2020, alongside developments in disability-inclusive language and the way we support organisations to understand non-visible disabilities, conditions, chronic illnesses and neurodivergence.

The updated animation brings together:

  • Learning from Sunflower wearers and member organisations across our global network
  • More practical guidance on how to respond with confidence and without making assumptions
  • Refreshed disability-inclusive language that reflects current best practice
  • Clearer, more focused key messages for employees

The current training animations will remain available during the transition.

There is no need to rush, but if you use an embedded animation, please make sure to install the updated version before 31 December 2026.

What employees will learn

The updated animation gives employees the knowledge and confidence to:

  • Recognise the Sunflower across lanyards, badges, and other items
  • Understand what it means: the wearer may need extra time, understanding, or support
  • Respond appropriately, without making assumptions about someone’s disability or condition
  • Offer support in the right way, guided by the individual’s own needs

The training also includes the Sunflower Rule of Six, a simple, practical way to help Sunflower wearers feel confident.

What's in the updated training suite

If you currently use an embedded animation

Your embedded training will not update automatically. You will need a new embed code.

Here’s how it works:

Fill out the request form and let us know where your animation is currently embedded, such as your website, intranet, LMS, or another platform. Please include the relevant URLs.

We will review and approve your domain for playback. The URLs you submit will also be checked to make sure they are linked to the correct Sunflower store and language version.

You will receive your new embed code, and you can decide when to install it and launch the updated training internally.

Please install the update before 31 December 2026. The current embedded animation will be turned off on 1 January 2027.

The transition period allows you to inform your teams about the update, review any related learning materials, and work with your technical team or agency to install the new version.

If you currently use SCORM

From 1 September 2026, all newly issued SCORM packages contain the updated animation.

  • At your next renewal, you’ll automatically receive the updated version.
  • Early replacement is available now for a one-off fee of £250 (ex tax)
  • Use the same request form to submit your SCORM request. Our team will review it based on your membership, language, and renewal details. Submitting the form does not automatically approve or issue a SCORM package. Our team will be in touch to confirm next steps.

Is there anything wrong with the current training?

No. The main principles and messages in the current training are still valid. The updated animation builds on them.

Do we have to retrain everyone immediately?

No. The existing training can continue to be used during the transition. The hard deadline of 31 December 2026 applies specifically to organisations using the embedded animation.

Will our embedded video update automatically?

No. You will need a new embed code. Please submit the request form and we will guide you through the process.

Why do you need our URL?

We use the submitted URL to approve your domain for the correct Vimeo configuration. Without this step, the new embed code cannot be issued.

We use both embedded and SCORM: what do we do?

Use the same request form and select both options. We will address both requests in your single submission.

We are not sure which format we should use. Can we still submit a request?

Yes. Choose “Not sure” on the form, and we will help you figure it out.

What if we want to move to the new SCORM before our renewal?

An early replacement is available for £250 (ex tax). Include this in your form submission and our team will follow up.
