The House of Representatives of the Netherlands has joined the global Hidden Disabilities Sunflower network. Employees are trained to recognize this symbol and to offer help or support to its wearers when they visit the House of Representatives.
Invisible limitation
The sunflower symbol appears on a lanyard or wristband. The people who wear it discreetly indicate that they have a non-visible disability, such as autism, an anxiety disorder, chronic pain, depression or ADHD. They may need a little more help or time than other visitors.
Recognize symbol
The House of Representatives is the first parliament in the European Union to recognize and acknowledge the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower. Employees are trained to recognize the symbol and to provide support or assistance to its wearers. On Monday, November 14, the first visitors were welcomed in the Chamber with a Hidden Disabilities Sunflower lanyard.
Accessibility House of Representatives
The accessibility of the House of Representatives has improved in several ways since it moved into the temporary accommodation.
