Hong Kong International Airport launches the Sunflower
Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) has joined the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower global network, an internationally recognised programmeme that helps organisations better understand and assist travellers with non-visible disabilities.
Airport teams have received Sunflower training to greet Sunflower wearers with understanding and empathy.
By wearing a Sunflower symbol, passengers can discreetly let teams know they may need extra time, understanding or support during their journey, without having to explain why. Sunflower products are available free of charge throughout the airport.
Because hospitality at HKIA has always meant more than an efficient journey. It means helping every passenger feel welcome and respected, regardless of what others can or cannot see, and giving them the confidence that they will receive support.
Chris Au Young, General Manager, Terminal and Passenger Experience of AAHK
“At HKIA, we are dedicated to fostering an airport experience where every passenger feels understood and supported. Our participation in the Sunflower Programme marks another step in strengthening accessibility and inclusivity across the airport, building on the opening of our Sensory Corner earlier this year. The programmeme equips our staff with greater awareness and understanding of hidden disabilities, enabling them to better recognise and support passengers who may require additional assistance. Together, these initiatives ensure every passenger can enjoy their journey through HKIA with ease, comfort and peace of mind.”
