Hidden Disabilities Sunflower x Scouts UK
Helping young people grow understanding, empathy, and inclusion
We’re proud to announce our partnership with Scouts UK. Together, we’re encouraging young people across the UK to understand, respect and support people with non-visible disabilities, and earn their very own Disabilities Awareness Scout badge along the way.
Through hands on activities like growing sunflowers and learning about non-visible disabilities, young people can take simple but powerful steps towards building a more inclusive world.
This is more than a badge, it’s about growing empathy, starting conversations, and creating lasting change.
About the Scouts
Scouts is the UK’s largest youth movement, preparing 4 - 24 year olds to step up, speak up and gain skills for life.
Everyone’s welcome, all faiths, genders and backgrounds, and nearly 450,000 young people are currently taking part, supported by 145,000 adult volunteers.
From Squirrels and Beavers to Cubs, Scouts and Explorers, children across the UK are building confidence, learning new skills, and helping others in their local communities.
Earn the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Scout badge
This Scout badge helps young people explore what it means to support those with non-visible disabilities, while taking part in a fun, memorable activity they’ll be proud of.
As part of the badge, Scouts can:
- Grow their own sunflower, a symbol of strength, joy and visibility
- Learn what hidden disabilities are and the barriers some people face
- Reflect on kindness, patience and inclusion
- Plant seeds of change in their groups, schools or local community
- Beavers Disability Awareness Activity Badge
- Squirrels Let It Grow and Exciting Experiments Badges
- Cubs and Scouts Gardener Activity Badges
It’s an ideal way for leaders to bring inclusive education into their sessions, with everything you need to make it meaningful, practical, and fun.
