Ten years of the Sunflower
A simple idea that grew around the world
The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower began in 2016 at Gatwick Airport in the UK.
A green lanyard with sunflowers provided a discreet way for people with non-visible disabilities to indicate they may need additional support without having to explain their condition.
What began as a small idea quickly spread.
Today the Sunflower is recognised in more than 95 countries and used across sectors including transport, retail, healthcare, education, workplaces, tourism, financial services and public services.
The goal remains the same. To create a world where people with non-visible disabilities are recognised, understood and supported.
Share your Sunflower moment
Millions of people around the world now wear the Sunflower. Each person has their own story.
