As part of its ongoing commitment to providing inclusive travel for all, DFDS, the World’s Leading Ferry Operator, is proud to announce that it has become a member of Hidden Disabilities Sunflower, which raises awareness and increases visibility for those living with invisible disabilities. The Sunflower is a symbol recognised around the world, allowing wearers to voluntarily indicate that they may need patience, extra time, and understanding at any point during their journey.
DFDS has worked closely with Hidden Disabilities Sunflower to equip all staff and crew onboard and ashore with the knowledge and training needed to support passengers with hidden disabilities. At any stage of their journey, on land or at sea, passengers can rest assured that they will receive the best possible care and attention.
Torben Carlsen, CEO of DFDS says:
“We are delighted and incredibly proud to support the Sunflower by joining the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower programme. Inclusive travel has always been a top priority for us, but for many disabled travellers the journey can still be a daunting and overwhelming part of the trip. The presence of the Sunflower onboard provides additional assurance to all our passengers that our friendly and attentive crew are on hand to create a welcoming environment, provide a positive experience, and ensure their crossing is smooth sailing.”
Paul White, CEO of Hidden Disabilities Sunflower added:
"Travel and adventure by sea have just become more accessible with the introduction of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower by DFDS. The Sunflower provides increased opportunities for passengers with invisible disabilities to travel and explore. It removes some of the barriers faced and allows access because the staff on board and ashore have had our training to recognise Sunflower wearers and offer them the support, patience and understanding they require."
The Sunflower is the newest addition to the services provided onboard DFDS ships and at the ports, and any passenger requiring a Sunflower lanyard can now pick one up at the port or onboard by visiting the Guest Information desk or asking a member of the crew, who will be more than happy to help.
