We are delighted to announce that Visit Milwaukee has joined the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program, becoming the first destination marketing organisation (DMO) in the Midwest to join the Sunflower program. The Sunflower supports individuals with non-apparent disabilities by offering a discreet way to voluntarily share that they may need additional support, time, or understanding in public spaces through theSunflower symbol.
The program first launched locally at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport and is now available at all Visit Milwaukee visitor touchpoints, including the newly opened visitor center at the Baird Center.
As part of its continued commitment to accessibility and inclusion, Visit Milwaukee plans to expand marketing efforts to reach visitors seeking accessible accommodations. The organisation also aims to equip its partner businesses with the tools and resources needed to better connect with and welcome these visitors.
Lynn Smith, regional Director - US, said:
“This marks a meaningful step toward building a more inclusive travel experience in the United States, By joining the program, Visit Milwaukee is helping to create a culture of awareness and understanding that ensures people with non-apparent disabilities feel seen, supported, and valued.”
This move underscores Milwaukee’s dedication to creating a more inclusive and welcoming destination for all.
