Building understanding, removing barriers, and supporting inclusion
Each month, the Sunflower focuses on a different non-visible disability to help build understanding, challenge stigma, and support inclusion.
This month’s focus is Brain Injuries.
Brain injury is an umbrella term used to describe damage to the brain that occurs after birth. It may result from an accident, stroke, infection, lack of oxygen, tumour, or other medical event. Some effects are visible, while others affect memory, concentration, communication, emotions, fatigue, or sensory processing and may not be immediately apparent.
With understanding, support, and inclusive environments, many people with brain injuries live meaningful and fulfilling lives. World Brain Day takes place each year on 22 July. While this awareness day plays an important role in promoting understanding, our commitment to supporting people affected by brain injury continues throughout the year.

Want to raise awareness across your business? We've created a Brain Injury Invisible Disabilities Index entry to explain brain injury, highlight the experiences of people living with its effects, and provide guidance on how to remove barriers and offer understanding and support.
