Where Every Guest Belongs: Grand Cayman Marriott Resort joins the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program

The Grand Cayman Marriott Resort has joined the global Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program, reaffirming its commitment to creating a more inclusive and empathetic guest experience. This alliance deepens the resort’s dedication to ensuring that every individual—whether their needs are visible or not—feels genuinely welcomed, supported, and respected throughout their stay.

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is an internationally recognised initiative that allows individuals living with non-visible disabilities to discreetly signal that they may require additional time, understanding, or assistance. At the Grand Cayman Marriott Resort, guests can choose to wear the Sunflower lanyard whenever they feel comfortable, knowing they will be met with care and thoughtful support. For those who prefer not to wear the lanyard, help remains equally accessible: every associate now wears a Sunflower supporter pin, a subtle but meaningful gesture that communicates readiness to listen, assist, and create a safe space for conversation.

To bring this commitment to life, the resort has implemented comprehensive training for all associates. Through dedicated education sessions, teams across every department have learned how to recognise the Sunflower symbol, understand the diverse and often not immediately apparent nature of disabilities, and respond with empathy, clarity, and patience. The training has strengthened the resort’s long-standing culture of service from the heart, ensuring that each interaction reflects dignity and compassion. Awareness signage throughout the property further reinforces the message and helps guests and the community understand the purpose of the program.

Hermes Cuello, General Manager of the Grand Cayman Marriott Resort, shared:

“This initiative is deeply aligned with Marriott International’s core values, and by adopting the Sunflower, we are reaffirming our commitment to inclusivity, empathy, and responsible hospitality. For us, this is far more than a symbol — it is a promise. A promise to foster greater awareness, compassion, and support not only within our resort, but throughout our Islands and the wider hospitality community.”

This initiative also supports Marriott International’s Serve360 platform—Doing Good in Every Direction—by advancing its global goals for sustainability, inclusion, and social impact. Through Serve360, Marriott strives to create more equitable and welcoming environments for guests and associates worldwide. The adoption of the Sunflower program at the Grand Cayman Marriott Resort represents a meaningful step toward these commitments, demonstrating how thoughtful hospitality can uplift communities and set new standards for responsible travel.

Paul White, CEO, at Hidden Disabilities Sunflower, added:

“We are delighted to welcome Grand Cayman Marriott Resort. The Sunflower-friendly hotel embodies responsible business practices. The initiatives they promote aim to improve the lives of the entire hotel community, including colleagues, guests, and the local community. The Sunflower training ensures anyone with a non-visible disability can receive an offer of support, understanding and kindness during their visit.”

As one of the most welcoming properties in the Caribbean, the Grand Cayman Marriott Resort believes the Sunflower extends far beyond its walls. It is part of a broader movement to inspire understanding, elevate empathy, and build a world where every guest truly belongs.
