Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is delighted to announce that Deer Lake Regional Airport (YDF), Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, has joined the global Sunflower network, reinforcing its commitment to creating a more accessible and inclusive airport experience for all passengers.
The launch will take place on June 5, 2026 during National AccessAbility Week in Canada and forms part of a wider programme of accessibility improvements being introduced across the airport.
As a Sunflower-friendly airport, Deer Lake Regional Airport is helping to create an environment where people with non-visible disabilities, conditions, chronic illnesses, or who are neurodivergent can travel with greater confidence.
The Sunflower provides a discreet way for passengers to indicate that they may need extra time, understanding, patience, or support during their journey. Alongside joining the Sunflower, Deer Lake Regional Airport is launching several new accessibility initiatives, including accessible washrooms, sensory kits for passengers, an autism-friendly airport social story, and GoodMaps indoor navigation technology.

The accessibility improvements form part of Deer Lake Regional Airport's ongoing Accessibility Plan, which focuses on identifying and removing physical, communication, and social barriers across airport operations.
