Our dedicated Hidden Disabilities Sunflower website for Spain is now live, making it easier for people and organisations across the country to access information, resources, training and Sunflower products in Spanish.

The website brings together information about the Sunflower, what it means, how it can be used and how organisations can support people with non-visible disabilities, conditions and chronic illnesses.

What is the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower?

Created at Gatwick Airport in 2016, the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a voluntary symbol for people with non-visible disabilities, conditions or chronic illnesses who may need a little extra time, understanding or support.

Not every disability or health condition is immediately apparent. Someone may experience barriers relating to communication, mobility, sensory processing, fatigue, pain, memory or other aspects of everyday life without these being visible to the people around them.

By choosing to wear a Sunflower lanyard, badge or other Sunflower product, a person can discreetly indicate that they may need support without having to explain their personal circumstances.

The Sunflower does not identify a particular disability or diagnosis, provide a legal status or give someone automatic priority.

People should never be asked why they are wearing the Sunflower. Instead, when you see someone wearing it, notice, ask how you can help and listen to what they tell you.

A dedicated place for Spain

The new website builds on the Sunflower’s existing presence in Spain and gives people a dedicated place to find information and support in Spanish.

For individuals and families, it provides clear information about what the Sunflower means and how it can be used.

For organisations, it provides access to training, practical resources and guidance to help teams understand the Sunflower and respond confidently and respectfully when they see someone wearing it.

Sunflower products are also available through the website, making it easier for people in Spain to access the items they need.

Supporting greater understanding

Our aim is to help create more places where people with non-visible disabilities, conditions or chronic illnesses feel understood and supported.

The dedicated Spanish website makes it easier for people and organisations to find the information and resources they need, all in one place and in Spanish.
