NSW Taxi Council and CTOA join the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower initiative

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is proud to welcome the NSW Taxi Council and the Country Taxi Operators Association (CTOA) as the latest members of the global initiative, helping to make the invisible visible across New South Wales.

In Australia, one in five people live with a disability, and an estimated 85% of these are hidden. Conditions such as autism, dementia, chronic pain, anxiety, and hearing or vision loss may not be immediately obvious but can significantly impact daily life. The Sunflower provides a simple and discreet way for individuals to indicate they may need extra time, patience, or understanding in their interactions.

By joining the Sunflower, the NSW Taxi Council and CTOA are taking an important step forward in creating a more inclusive and supportive taxi industry.

On Monday, 15 September 2025, twelve Taxi Concierge Personnel, along with the NSW Taxi Council CEO and Training Manager, completed Sunflower training and received certification recognising their commitment to the program. This training equips staff with the skills and confidence to respond with care and sensitivity, ensuring passengers feel respected, understood, and safe.

The Sunflower will continue to be rolled out across the NSW taxi industry, extending beyond Sydney Airport and into communities across the state.

By embracing the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower, the NSW Taxi Council and CTOA are reinforcing their commitment to accessibility, compassion, and inclusivity—ensuring every passenger can travel with dignity and confidence.
