An international programme designed to support people with non-apparent disabilities is now in place at Assiniboine Park. Assiniboine Park Conservancy has joined the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower programme, becoming the first park and zoo in Canada to participate. The programme supports people whose disability or medical condition may not be immediately apparent, helping create more welcoming and inclusive public spaces.
The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a globally recognized symbol that allows individuals to discreetly indicate they may need additional time, patience, or understanding. Staff and volunteers at participating locations are trained to recognize the Sunflower and offer support when needed.
By joining the programme, Assiniboine Park Conservancy is strengthening its commitment to accessibility across the park, the zoo, and The Leaf, ensuring visitors with non-visible disabilities can feel more confident and supported during their visit. Assiniboine Park Conservancy is now listed on the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Map, helping people identify Sunflower-friendly locations before they arrive.
