City Of Albury & Albury regional airport launch the Sunflower
To make Albury a more inclusive and accessible community for people to visit, live, work and play, Albury City has joined the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower initiative.
By partnering with Bayley House, to launch the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower, people across the Albury community with disabilities can choose to wear a Sunflower product as a subtle way of letting others know they may require additional support, assistance, or a bit more time.
If you're somebody who lives with a hidden disability, you can now pick up a FREE Hidden Disabilities Sunflower product from any of these locations across the community:
- Uiver Café & Bar – Albury Airport
- Albury Airport Enquiries Office
- Albury City Customer Service
- With more Sunflower-friendly venues coming soon!
If you keep an eye out, you will also see people wearing “I Support the Sunflower” badges or lanyards! This shows they have completed dedicated training to help those with hidden disabilities.
Hobart airport now supports the Sunflower
We're thrilled to announce that Hobart airport joined the Sunflower during August. For passengers with an invisible disability, wearing a Sunflower lanyard at Hobart Airport indicates to airport staff that you may need additional support or a little more time to complete your journey through the airport.
Airport staff may ask how they can assist you. You, or your carer, might like to use your lanyard to help explain any additional support you require.
If you are feeling overwhelmed during any stage of the airport process, please approach an airport staff member for assistance and they can slow down the process, help you find a quiet part of the terminal, or offer assurance to help make the journey to your flight, as comfortable as possible.
If you, or someone you know, would benefit from wearing a Sunflower lanyard at Hobart airport, please complete this form on their website at least seven days prior to your travel date and they will reserve a lanyard for you.
Untitled Group, Australia’s largest independently-owned music and events company, renowned as the masterminds behind much loved festivals like Beyond the Valley, Pitch Music & Arts, Wildlands, Grapevine Gathering, For the Love and Ability Fest, now support the Sunflower
Travellers Aid has become a charity re-seller of the Sunflower in Melbourne.
Keolis Downer, the largest private multi-modal public transport operator in Australia, now support the Sunflower on their transport networks that operate within Adelaide & Northern Beaches and will begin to train staff and provide the public with information to heighten the awareness of non-visible disabilities. Stay tuned for an upcoming launch date.
