Stadiums Queensland Joins the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program

We’re delighted to welcome Stadiums Queensland (SQ) to the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower network this Invisible Disabilities Week.

SQ venues, including The Gabba, Queensland Country Bank Stadium, Cbus Super Stadium, Sleeman Sports Complex, Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane Entertainment Centre and Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre (QSAC), are now part of a growing global community recognising the Sunflower as a simple way to support people with non-visible disabilities.

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a globally recognised symbol that lets others know the wearer may have a disability, condition or chronic illness that is not immediately apparent and may need a little extra help, time or understanding.

Mirella Taylor, Executive General Manager, Venues at Stadiums Queensland, says:

"SQ is committed to delivering accessible and inclusive venues and workplaces with one in six people living with a disability, and the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program is a great way to extend diversity and inclusion to anyone entering any of our venues,”
"By displaying the Sunflower, wearers are prompting a simple, ‘can I help you?’ from our trained staff who can provide the support or understanding needed."

The rollout of the Sunflower across SQ venues reflects a strong commitment to accessibility and inclusion. It will benefit patrons and staff, while also providing a supportive environment for athletes training and competing at SQ venues.

Graeme Clark, QSAC Venue General Manager, said hosting the championships was a proud moment for the team:

"We are very proud to foster a disability inclusive culture at QSAC where all staff, visitors, and athletes feel welcome and respected.”

We’re thrilled to have Stadiums Queensland join the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower network and look forward to seeing the positive impact across Queensland’s stadiums and entertainment venues.
