Canberra Metro Operations joins the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Initiative

Canberra Metro Operations (CMET) operates Canberra’s light rail network and has joined the global Sunflower community to help make public transport more accessible and inclusive for everyone.

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a globally recognised symbol that allows people living with non-visible disabilities to discreetly indicate that they may need a little extra support, time, or understanding.

As part of the rollout, CMET staff have completed Sunflower training to ensure they can recognise the symbol and provide assistance whenever it’s needed. This initiative reflects CMET’s ongoing commitment to inclusion, accessibility, and supporting every member of the Canberra community.

To celebrate the launch, CMET welcomed Paul Power, Member Engagement Manager at the Sunflower Initiative, and James Dunn, a local Canberra Sunflower Ambassador, to the CMET Depot for a special town hall meeting. During the event, James shared his personal story and spoke about the positive impact the Sunflower has had on his journey and in raising awareness for people with non-visible disabilities.

The rollout of the Sunflower across the CMET network marks an important step in building an inclusive and understanding public transport environment for all passengers and staff.

We look forward to seeing the positive impact across Canberra’s light rail system.
