Making the invisible visible

Making the invisible visible

A discreet way to indicate that you have a hidden disability

Not all disabilities are visible – some are hidden and not immediately obvious, such as learning difficulties, mental health as well as mobility, speech, visual or hearing impairments. Living with a hidden disability can make daily life more demanding for many people, but it can be difficult for others to identify, acknowledge or understand the challenges you face.

Be visible when you want to be

Wearing the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower discreetly indicates to people around you including staff, colleagues and health professionals that you may need additional support, help or a little more time.

CMET embraces the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower

Canberra Metro Operations joins the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Initiative

Canberra Metro Operations (CMET) operates Canberra’s light rail network and has joined the global Sunflower community to help make public transport more accessible and inclusive for everyone.

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a globally recognised symbol that allows people living with non-visible disabilities to discreetly indicate that they may need a little extra support, time, or understanding.

As part of the rollout, CMET staff have completed Sunflower training to ensure they can recognise the symbol and provide assistance whenever it’s needed. This initiative reflects CMET’s ongoing commitment to inclusion, accessibility, and supporting every member of the Canberra community.

AuDHD with Madeleine - Australia and New Zealand

“When I was diagnosed, I literally had this epiphany of going, well, I'm also short and if I can't reach something in the cupboard, I stand on a chair, and I don't beat myself up about having to stand on a chair. So why would I beat myself up about anything that my operating system of a brain does or doesn't do?”

Flic Manning speaks with Madeleine Jaine Lobsey about Autism and ADHD and how we can move from deficit thinking to joyful, neuroinclusive design across events and workplaces. Madeleine shares her personal and professional journey, exploring how lived experience can transform leadership, creativity, and inclusion.

The Sunflower Conversations is a Podcast where we explore the experiences of people living with hidden disabilities and what the Sunflower means to them. It’s a space to share your experience and to empower and encourage more people to support invisible disabilities.

On this day, AC/DC | POWER UP Tour ticketholders with both hidden and physical disabilities will have the opportunity to join an accessibility tour and experience all aspects of the patron’s journey without the pressure and stimulation of a crowded event day.
